Carlos Khu is one photographer who doesn’t stop at the usual process that an adept photographer would follow – visualizing , styling, clicking a great picture, then post production, leading to a beautiful product. He crafts his photos, he stretches them as if on the easel, designs, paints, brings together raw & contrasting elements into the picture, then presents it as his individual art! That’s How I met him, at an art exhibit.
well, Carlos, you are successful in catching the eye, for sure. I’ ve been overwhelmed with the expanse of items he can juxtapose and make them blend together, yet standout.
Even more dazzling is the fact that he is self taught. At age 16 he started doing friendly jobs and favours to do weddings/ shoots for people around. He observed other artist’s work, and studied from photography magazines. Once he gathered a team, he delved into fashion photography, look books, campaigns and editorials.
What inspires you most Carlos? “Music and travelling are top of my list, but I guess I’m constantly inspired by many different things. If I have a vision, or theme, I choose models who have the right attitude and connection. I relate with my team/models and make them feel comfortable to be able to give their best.”
‘My photography heroes are Steven Klein and Nick Knight, but my biggest role model is Lady Gaga. I plan to venture out internationally in the next few years to Europe and the US’. All the best to you Carlos.
